Episode 1: Dawn of a New Era
Sydney Chikara walked down the halls of Fujiyama High School. Gaia closed her locker and walked over to Sydney. "Hiya, Gaia!" Sydney said, then giggled.
"Hi Sydney," Gaia said, "Are you going to the wicked cool New Year's Eve party at the Haki mansion?"
"I want to go. It will be the only New Millenium party that I'll see in my lifetime. I don't know Cleo Haki, though. It's her party, you know," said Sydney.
"Yeah. The year 2000 doesn't roll around every day, you know. It's really neat that she invited everybody in town, even if they don't go to her school," said Gaia.
Gaia walked through one of the doors to the hall and said, "Bye Sydney!"
Sydney said goodbye to Gaia and continued walking down the hall. The bell rang, and Sydney jumped. "Darn! Late again!" she said under her breath. A drop of sweat ran down her face. Sydney started running.
Adam Ichimatsu! thought Cleo. As she walked from her last class at Gozaimas Private School to her next, Adam approached her.
"I just wanted to say I'd be at your party," Adam said.
"I'm glad! I'll see you there!" Cleo said. A group of Adam's friends surrounded him and they walked away, leaving Cleo behind. She adjusted the ribbon in her hair and smiled. Then, she started skipping to class.
Gwen Dokyou took a note from Vanessa's hand and opened it. "Did you hear about the New Year's Eve party at the Haki mansion?" said the note.
Gwen took out her pen and wrote, "Yes. I already bought a new dress. I'm going for shoes today." She passes the note back to Vanessa.
Vanessa read the note and wrote back, "Cool. I'm going too. I haven't found a guy to go with yet, though." Vanessa passed the note to Gwen. Just as Gwen finished reading the note, the teacher walked up to Gwen and Vanessa's desks. The girls blushed.
The teacher, with a single movement of his arm, took the note from Gwen's hands. "Here at Kogane High School, we do not tolerate the passing of notes. Detention for both of you!" the teaches hissed, pulling detention slips from his pocket. He gave one to both girls. Gwen started crying. "And for that outburst, you've got detention tomorrow, too" the teacher said, while handing Gwen another slip. Gwen stopped crying and sniffled. The teacher walked away.
Cleo sat under the canopy on her extra-large bed reading a book. Her computer made a beeping noise, and she went over to it. "This is so odd!" she said. "The computer says that another dimension is trying to to wedge it's way into this one. At the rate it's going, it will be connected to our dimension in 74.5 hours." Cleo went over a few numbers in her head. "That's just before my party begins."
Shadow rose from his throne. Red points of light appeared in the translucent blackness that was his face. "I'm tired of being trapped in negative space! I will collect human life energy and break the seal of the Seven Sages."
Shadow sat down on his throne again and started to remember his past. "My... relative, Nyx, destoryed the planet Hecate. The Seven Sages of Earth thought that I was he. They used their magic to send me into this dimension, negative space. It is sealed so that my body cannot escape."
Part of the floor rippled and bacame a pool of water. An image of the planet Earth appeared in the pool. Shadow pondered the image in the pool. "The day when I am connected with the positive space of Earth is called New Year's Eve. Many humans have great parties on this day to honor the end of one revolution around their star Sol and the beginning of a new one. If I had servants working to collect energy at one of those parties, I could collect a fair amount of energy. I believe I could find suitable servants there," said Shadow as he pointed to a city in Japan on his image of Earth.
A gray cat with a black upside-down crescent moon hopped into Shadow's lap. "Hello, Phoebe," Shadow said.
"How is your plan to be free again going, master?" the cat asked.
"It is going fine, however I need to find people who will serve me," Shadow said. "Without servants I cannot collect the energy I need to be free of this prison. Are we ready to create the powers that the servants will need?"
"Well, you're going to need this, master," said Phoebe, "I would have given it back sooner, but until now you did not have a use for it." She leapt off of Shadow's lap and did a somersault in the air. An amulet appeared and fell into Shadow's hand. It was a black upside-down crecent moon trimmed in gold.
"Ah! The Dark Moon Amulet! I'm glad to see you took this from me before I was sealed in. I'm sure the Sages would have taken it. It is not strong enough to get me out of here, but it will grant me the ability to give power to my servants," said Shadow.
The pool of water stopped rippling, and started to change color. The brilliant blue of the water faded to the dull gray of stone. The pool of water turned back into the drab floor of Shadow's lair.
Several hundred guests waited outside of the Haki mansion. It was just starting to get dark, and then the giant doors of the mansion swung open. People started pouring inside. Near the front, Sydney, in a skin-tight short green dress, entered the mansion on the arm of a handsome boy, and saw Cleo on her way in, but paid no attention to her.
Gwen was in a long red dress, but was alone. As she was pushed forward by the advancing masses, she tried to say hello to Cleo, but her voice was lost in the chatter of the crowd.
Cleo was pleased at the turnout for her party. I hope Adam doesn't have a girl with him so I can ask him to dance, she thought, What am I thinking? A guy like Adam without a date to the biggest party this town's ever had! That's going to happen!
Near the back of the crowd waiting to get into the party stood Gaia and Vanessa. Since they didn't go to the same school, they didn't know each other. The said nothing and tried not to look at each other.
The floor of Shadow's lair began to ripple and again became a pool of water. The scene of the party appeared in the water. "The connection is complete. Now I can bring people here to become my servants," Shadow said.
Shadow stared into the pool, looking over the scene in front of the mansion. He saw two girls standing beside each other near the back that interested him. "I want those two," he said, pointing at Gaia and Vanessa. The mansion faded out of the pool. Gaia and Vanessa rose from the pool, and stood at the water's surface. Surprisingly, they were not wet. The pool changed back to the floor.
"Where am I?" both girls asked at the same time. They turned around, taking in the whole of the lair, and then started to cry. The pair collapsed to their knees.
"You are in negative space, and this is my home. I am Shadow, and I will be your new master," Shadow said. "I will give you great powers, and you will become my servants. You wil gather energy so that I can leave this prison. Would you like new powers? I will make both of you Sailor Scouts so you can help me."
"Sailor Scouts?" asked Gaia.
"Just like Sailor Moon?" asked Vanessa.
"Yes. You will be just like Sailor Moon," said Shadow. "Gaia, you will become Sailor Terra, and draw your power from the Earth. Vanessa, you will be Sailor Helios, and draw your power from your Sun. You will gain the ability to get the energy I need to get out of here, and also fight the evil Sailor Scouts who wish to keep me here, even though I am wrongly accused. As of now, however, none of the evil Scouts have shown, so your job should be easy." Good job with the evil Sailors bit. That's the way to get them to work for me. Of course, it won't matter when I have brainwashed them, by they have to take the power willingly, he thought.
"I want to be a Sailor Scout!" both girls exclaimed at the same time. They started jumping up and down.
"Very well then," Shadow said. "I will give you your new powers. Shadow raised his hands above his head.. "DARK ENERGY INFUSION!" Shadow yelled. A beam of black light shot from the amulet on his chest and bathed the girls.
The symbol of the Earth, a cirlce with a plus in the middle, appeared on Gaia's forehead. The symbol of the Sun. a circle with a dot in the middle, appeared on Vanessa's forehead. The black light from the amulet ceased. The girls held their hands out in front of them, and black light came from their hands. When the black light stopped, Gaia held a green compact, and Vanessa held a yellow one.
"Now that I have created this power for you, you can use it to transform," said Shadow, "I believe you know how. I gave you knowledge of you powers by putting it into your brains. Now, transform!"
Vanessa yelled, "HELIOS POWER!" and opened her compact. The sign of Helios appeared on the gem inside the compact. A fireball surrounded her. Then, the fireball exploded outward and Sailor Helios stood in her yellow and orange uniform.
Gaia yelled, "TERRA POWER!" and opened her compact. The sign of Terra appeared on the gem inside her compact. A cloud of leaves swirled around her. When the leaves blew away, Sailor Terra was standing in her green and blue uniform.
"Now, go get energy from the people at that party. And if you see anyone who you think would like to help me, you can make them a scout, too. Just say 'Dark Energy Infusion' and your powers will do the rest," Shadow said. The floor rippled and became the pool of water. The new sailors jumped in.
Helios and Terra appeared inside the Haki mansion, but not in the party. They were standing in front of an ornate door. Terra swung the door open and revealed the party. Hundreds of people were there, eating all sorts of food and dancing to the music.
The two scouts lifted their hands in the air and screamed "ENERGY ABSORB!" The guests' energy left their bodies and drifted to the scouts' tiaras. The guests started passing out. They fell on top of one another, collapsed in a large heap.
Three girls remained standing. They were Sydney, Cleo, and Gwen. "Hey, they're still up!" exclaimed Terra.
"They they are strong enough to be scouts and help Shadow," Helios said. The scouts looked at each other and then at the girls.
"What would they have the power of?" asked Gaia.
"I don't know. Shadow said that our powers would do all the hard work. Let's just try that energy infusion and see what happens," Helios said.
The girls stood back to back and both held their arm out to the side to point at the girls. "DARK ENERGY INFUSION!" shouted Sailors Terra and Helios in unison. Green light came from Terra's hand and Yellow light came from Helios's hand. Then all the light turned black.
Powers were not created, however. The energy awakened the powers that were already in Sydney, Cleo, and Gwen. The symbol of Hecate, a line with a triangle sticking out to the right, appeared on their foreheads. Sydney's was green, Cleo's was Blue, and Gwen's was red. Then the symbols turned gray.
The three girls held an arm above their heads. White light began to come from their hands. When the light stopped, each girl held a compact. The girls opened their compacts at the same time and screamed "HECATE POWER!" Energy beams connected the three compacts in a triangle and the symbol of Hecate appeared in the center.
Cleo and Gween could feel their bodies lose substance. Their minds drifted until they were in the body of Sydney. This is wierd! all three thought at the same time. Then, gray ribbons came out of Sydney's compact. They wrapped around Sydney's body and took the shape of a Sailor uniform. It was gray and green. We're a Sailor Scout? the girls asked each other.
Something inside of Sydney switched on. "Ushered in by the dawn of the new millenium, I am Sailor Hecate! You took the energy of all the guests, and you're going to pay!" she said as she was pointing at Sailors Terra and Helios.
"I don't think so," Helios said. She brought her arm out in front of her. She shouted, "SUPERNOVA BLAST!" and brought her arm down in a diagonal swiping motion. A ring of light came from it and sailed toward Hecate. She jumped out of the way.
Do we have anything to hit back with? asked Gwen.
Yeah, what kind of weapons does this thing have? asked Cleo.
"I don't know. I'm just as new to this as you are, girls" Sydney said.
Adam got up from the huddled mass of the crowd. "I've got to help them," he said weakly. "I just wish I knew how." A pen fell from Adam's pocket and somehow, he knew what to do.
Adam held the pen above his head. He screamed "PARASOL POWER!" and streaks of energy came from the pen. He brought it down to point in front of him. The pen popped open and turned into an umbrella, which hid Adam. He bought the umbrella above his head to reveal the red and chekcered-black-and-white of the Parasol Man uniform.
Adam closed the umbrella and used it like a sword to strike Helios. Helios stumbled back. "You won't get away with that!" said Helios. She cried "SUPERNOVA BLAST!" and shot out an energy ring at Parasol Man. The ring struck him and he fell down.
Terra looked on nervously. "I thought we were supposed to get the energy and get out. Why are we here fighting these two?"
"Obviously, our attempt to get a new scout to work for us didn't work. If we can wear her down, maybe we can take the energy back," said Helios.
We've got to help him! said Cleo.
"Of course we do!" said Sydney. "If I just knew how to use this thing." Hecate ran over to Adam's side to see how he was doing.
Adam whispered in Hecate's ear, "You've got to use your ribbon, Sailor Hecate. It is the only way to defeat the evil Scouts."
"Okay," said Hecate. She got a flash of inspiration. She held out her hand, and a gray and green wand with the symbol of Hecate on top appeared in her hand. She threw it into the air. A long, flowing, puprle ribbon grew from the wand.
"MAGIC RIBBON BIND!" she screamed. She brought the wand in front of her and the riboon darted out toward Helios and Terra. They jumped out of the way.
"Not this time!" Terra shouted. She brought her hands out in front of her. She cried, "SPORE CLOUD!" and a green energy sphere appeared and floated above her hands. She spun around and when she faced front again, her hands were turned down. The green ball fell from her hands to the floor. When the ball hit the floor it exploded into a cloud of spores that blinded Sailor Hecate.
"It's in my eyes!" Hecate screamed. She started running around aimlessly. The spores cleared and Terra and Helios were no longer there. "They got away!" Hecate said.
Parasol Man got up and walked over to Sailor Hecate. "You did a good job, Sailor Hecate. It's not easy fighting other Sailor Scouts, you know," he said. "Good luck in the future!" he said, then ran out of the party.
Hecate reached for the gray circle on the bow on her chest. As she did, her Sailor uniform turned into gray ribbons that went into the circle, and the cirlce became her compact. Cleo and Gwen reapeared.
"That was an interesting party," Sydney said. "Do you think we're going to have to fight those two again?"
"Well, they didn't get too much energy. That light beam that made us remember our powers took a lot of energy. I think they'll want more," Cleo said. "They'll be back for more energy somewhere, sometime."
"It's not fair!" said Gwen. "How come you get to be on the outside and we have to be on the inside?"
"I don't know why," said Sydney, "That's just how it works, I guess."
Shadow saw the three girls talking in his pool of water. "You have foiled my plans this time, Sailors Hecate, but it will not happen again. I promise it." Phoebe jumped up into his lap.
